The Queensland Parliament is due to debate the Public Health (Medicinal Cannabis) Bill 2016 this evening.
Member for Buderim Steve Dickson is calling on the Government to support the lives of terminally ill children in Queensland.
On Friday 7 October 2016, Mr Dickson sponsored to the Queensland Parliament a petition which draws to the attention of the House the dire situation of Steve Peek and his 8 year old daughter Suli.
Mr Peek said ‘Doctors have tried every legal medication on Suli, who has a regressive neurological disorder that causes multiple chronic seizures, but nothing has worked.
‘Traditional medicines are failing to produce any positive results and are giving Suli severe side effects.’
Mr Peek wants to be granted amnesty to administer whole plant medicinal cannabis to his daughter in an effort to stop her seizures and provide her with quality of life, as her diagnosis is terminal.
The petition requests the House to grant an amnesty for Steve Peek to administer whole plant medicinal cannabis to his terminally ill 8 year old daughter when in hospital.
In just five days, the petition has received 1,335 signatures, showing strong support for Mr Peek and young Suli.
Steve Dickson, a strong advocate of medicinal cannabis, is asking Queenslanders to get behind Suli and support this common-sense amnesty.
Mr Dickson said ‘A recent survey I conducted on medicinal cannabis showed that 98% of respondents supported the use of medicinal cannabis to treat chronic illnesses.
‘Importantly, 97% of people surveyed would treat their dependent child with medicinal cannabis.’
