MOOLOOLAH RIVER INTERCHANGE MUST NOT BE IGNORED BY THE LABOR STATE GOVERNMENT

Member for Buderim Steve Dickson asked the following question of the Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk this morning in parliament:

Will the Premier commit to funding in this term of government, the LNP’s $440 million planned upgrade to the Mooloolaba River Interchange on the Sunshine Motorway which will provide a critical link to new Sunshine Coast University Hospital?

Mr Dickson said, “After the Sunshine Coast Daily headline on 13 March stated ‘Labor axes $440 million road plans’,  I wrote to the Hon Jackie Trad, Deputy Premier, Minister for Transport, Minister for Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning and Minister for Trade requesting an update on the Mooloolah River Interchange and I am currently awaiting her reply.”

Mayor Mark Jamieson and Sunshine Coast Business Council Chair Sandy Zubrinich have criticised the Labor State Government’s decision to axe this interchange (Sunshine Coast Daily 18.03.15).  The interchange upgrade was identified as one of council’s top 10 priorities to candidates prior to the state election.

Mr Dickson said, “When the Sunshine Coast Public University Hospital opens in 2016, it will offer a range of new and expanded free public hospital services and will be supported by specialised staff, who will care for patients with life-threatening conditions.  If patients are delayed when travelling to the hospital, due to an inadequate road network, precious lives could be lost on the way.

“We also can’t ignore that the upgrade is desperately needed to alleviate the traffic issues on the Sunshine Motorway at the Mountain Creek interchange.  The weaving on and off the motorway at this junction is incredibly dangerous.

“The LNP government had a firm plan to deliver this vital piece of infrastructure which must not be shelved by the Labor government.”
